PULPIT SUPPLY INFORMATION FOR UDTS STUDENTS:

• Supply requests come from churches of various denominations in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.
• Requests may be one-time or may be short-term supply for several weeks.
• Students may supply after obtaining the approval of the Field Education Director (usually after completing one course in preaching or with other preaching experience).
• Students select the assignments which interest them - there is no requirement to supply.
• Students receive an honorarium and mileage each time they supply (see below).
• The Field Education office notifies available supply preachers via email when a request for pulpit supply is received.  Assignments are filled on a first-response basis.
• Pulpit supply allows students to develop or improve worship leadership and preaching skills, and it also provides a needed service to area congregations in their ministry.  

WHEN A STUDENT ACCEPTS A SUPPLY ASSIGNMENT:

• The Field Education office provides the Church Information Sheet (CIS), which contains information regarding service time, contact information and information regarding the service and preparation of the bulletin. 
• If a sample bulletin is available, the Field Education office will also send that.
• Various hymnals for many denominations are available in the Field Education office.
• After the assignment is confirmed the student and the church should be in contact as per the CIF information regarding the service details, but no later than Thursday prior to the service. 
• Students should review and follow the Student Preaching Guidelines.  

LONGER-TERM ASSIGNMENTS

A church may request a student to provide short-term ongoing pulpit supply while they search for a pastor or while their pastor is unavailable for a period of time.  The Pulpit Supply program is designed to give students experience and to help meet temporary needs. For long-term needs, we recommend the congregation hire a student pastor. This requires a selection process open to all interested students.  Students should refer requests for long-term service to the Director of Field Education, Rev. Hal Murry, at 563.589-3114. UDTS will gladly arrange a time and place for interviews, and host the interviews on our campus.
