Charles C. Myers
Library
The Charles C. Myers Library and Wartburg Theological Seminary's Reu Memorial Library form a library partnership to serve the needs of students. The collections are separate, but the entire operation is integrated through an online library automation system. The combined resources include 90,000 volumes at Wartburg and 168,500 volumes at the University of Dubuque . The two libraries subscribe to about 750 current periodical subscriptions in print. In addition, the library has access to over 12,000 online periodicals and many online reference works. Students have access to all library resources, including the online catalog and the major academic databases in religion, both on and off-campus.
The collections at the two institutions are complementary. Specialties at the Charles C. Myers Library include materials of the Reformed and United Methodist traditions, Native American history, philosophy, and world religions. In addition, the newly established Wendt Collection focuses on character and ethics. The Reu Memorial Library is particularly strong in Lutheran studies, Latin American liberation theology, feminist theology, theology and literature, and has an extraordinary rare book collection.
The two institutions are located less than one mile from each other. There is a daily courier service between UD and Wartburg facilitating inter-library loan and photocopy services. Other libraries in the area whose combined resources provide excellent back-up include: Carnegie-Stout Public Library, Clarke College, Emmaus Bible College, Loras College, and Northeast Iowa Community College.
