Message from Dean Mark Ward

The story of the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary first began in 1852, when a pastor began instructing a small group for ministry to German speaking immigrants moving into the Western frontier.  Over the years, our language and modes of instruction have changed, but our central mission has not.  We find our mission in God’s mission of redemption and hope, preparing God’s people for service to the church and world. 

We are honored to walk alongside of our students as they take up their place within God’s story.  Whether you are a lay person looking to deepen your understanding of God, a college graduate looking to be trained for formal ministry, or an ordained minister looking for advanced study opportunities, UDTS stands ready to help you live more fully into your calling in Christ Jesus.
