Distance Education

The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary makes quality theological education widely available to those who seek to serve the church as pastors through our Distance Master of Divinity program and the Commissioned Lay Pastor (CLP) program. If you are considering a theological education, but cannot relocate, you may find the answer to your prayers through one of these options.

There are three choices for the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary’s distance learning program:

The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary has a strong track record for successful distance learning programs. In the past seven years, more than 1,000 students from across the nation have participated in our innovative Commissioned Lay Pastor Program. In 2004, the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary began offering several elective Master of Divinity courses online.

This year, our seminary expanded its distance learning program to allow participants to obtain an accredited Master of Divinity degree primarily online. Participants spend only four weeks a year on campus. Time constraints, scheduling difficulties, and geography are no longer barriers to theological study! Seminary students can conveniently attend many of their classes online.

Online instruction allows participants to benefit from the flexibility of independent learning and the interaction of group learning in a new educational experience that permits participation from nearly anywhere in the world. Interaction with instructors and other students occurs through email and discussion boards on the course website.

Our distance education program offers the same curriculum with the same faculty as our residential program. For more information about online learning opportunities at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, email udtsonline@dbq.edu.
