Elmer M. Colyer
"Vital ministry is always deeply theological. Vibrant theology arises out of the evangelical and doxological life of the church. Theology articulates and clarifies the content of the church's faith in the Triune God of grace. Like the church, theology has a history. Historical theology serves the church by bringing the enduring insights of the Christian community through the ages to bear upon the understanding and proclamation of the Gospel in the present. The radically historical character of the human condition and the church invites, even demands theological dialogue across the boundaries of space and time. Historical theology insures that theological voices from the past are part of the conversation in the present." Dr. Colyer is an ordained United Methodist Pastor and Elder in the Wisconsin Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has served churches in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and Iowa. A summa cum laude student in college and seminary, he received his Ph.D. from Boston College/Andover Newton in 1992. In addition to published articles and reviews in journals, including Scottish Journal of Theology, Pro Ecclesia, Religious Studies Review, and Christianity Today, Dr. Colyer edited Evangelical Theology in Transition: Theologians in Dialogue with Donald Bloesch and The Promise of Trinitarian Theology: Theologians in Dialogue with T. F. Torrance. Dr. Colyer is author of How to Read T.F. Torrance: Understanding His Trinitarian and Scientific Theology and The Nature of Doctrine in T. F. Torrance’s Theology. |
