University of Dubuque Receives DRA Grant

The University of Dubuque has received a grant from the Dubuque Racing Association (DRA) totaling $28,611 to support renovations to Alumni Hall, a significant Dubuque landmark.

The University's Alumni Hall, once linked to Steffens Hall and serving as the campus chapel, is one of the oldest buildings on the campus and is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The building currently serves as a multi-purpose facility - campus and wedding chapel, classroom, meeting room, art gallery, concert hall, and production facility - and is frequently used by students, faculty, alumni/ae, and residents of the Dubuque community. For many years, Alumni Hall has been a center of activity for both on and off campus community groups.

The DRA grant allows Alumni Hall to be retrofitted with up-to-date media technology to facilitate presentation, performance, and educational needs. New chairs have also been installed to provide secure and comfortable seating, while offering creative flexibility in seating arrangements for various events and activities.

Upon receiving the grant, University President Jeffrey F. Bullock stated, "We're very grateful to the Dubuque Racing Association for their generous gift. With their help, the University will be able to update Alumni Hall - aiding the University in its stewardship of an important campus center as well as a significant architectural element in the city's history, making it up-to-date for today's many functions, and providing inspiration for continued historic preservation efforts that make Dubuque such a beautiful city for all of us."
