UD and American Eagle Establish Bridge Program

The University of Dubuque and American Eagle, a subsidiary of American Airlines, have established a bridge (preferred hire) program for the University's aviation graduates.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to work with a well respected company in the industry," commented Steven Accinelli, aviation department chair and director of the flight center.

Graduates of the University's aviation program may apply for a pilot position with American Eagle under the following conditions:
- Commercial/multi-engine certificate
- 500 hours total time
- 100 hours multi-engine time
- an Aviation Degree (BS)
- 3.0 GPA
- Letter of Recommendation from the Department Chair
- highly recommended, simulator skills in addition to the 500 hours

"The advantage of a bridge program is a lower flight hour requirement," said Kevin Foley, associate professor of aviation. "Therefore, our students have the opportunity to interview much earlier than most of their colleagues."

American Eagle is planning on hiring 350 pilots in 2006.
