University Receives $1.5 Million Endowment Gift for Scholarships

The University of Dubuque has recently received a $1.5 million anonymous endowment gift that will underwrite scholarships for both undergraduate and seminary students.

Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $10,000 each, for one year, starting with the Fall 2006 semester. Seven scholarships will be provided each year, with at least five awarded to undergraduate students and up to two awarded to seminary students.

"This is an incredible blessing at the end of the school year as well as a simply wonderful scholarship opportunity for first generation undergraduate students who otherwise may have thought college would not be possible," commented Tim Kremer, dean of student financial planning. "The scholarships provided for seminary students will help alleviate the costs of graduate education for a much-needed vocation. With pastoral retirements there are more vacancies to fill each year in our nation's churches."

Recipients of the undergraduate scholarships will be first generation college students who show promise for success in attaining a four-year degree. They will be required to meet normal admission standards, be of excellent character, and reflect the Mission and values of the University of Dubuque. Undergraduate scholarships have the possibility of renewal for three years if recipients continue to meet the scholarship criteria.

Recipients of the seminary scholarships will be candidates for pastoral ministry approved by a judicatory of a U.S-based church, and enrolled full-time in the Master of Divinity program. They will have demonstrated key academic abilities and strong gifts for ministry. Seminary scholarships have the possibility of renewal for one year.
