UD's Gaffney Awarded Heisner Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award

Timothy Kremer, dean of student financial planning and scholarships at the University of Dubuque, today announced that Amy Gaffney, associate director of student financial planning, was awarded the John Heisner Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award by the Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (IASFAA).  The award was presented at IASFAA's November meeting in Council Bluffs.

The John Heisner Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award is named in memory of John Heisner, a dedicated advocate for both students and financial aid professionals and a long-time director of program operations and financial aid services at the Iowa College Student Aid Commission.  The recipient of this award exemplifies the ideals of service to the profession, support of colleagues, and advocacy for students.  This award is the highest honor IASFAA bestows upon an individual member and requires significant contributions over an extended period of time.

One of Gaffney's nominators said of her, "when I think about someone that has dedicated a "lifetime" to the ideals of service to the financial aid profession, support of colleagues and advocacy for students, I immediately think of (Amy Gaffney), who has served on and chaired every IASFAA committee and has held a number of elected Executive Council positions including President.  This individual never does the bare minimum on any task put before them and constantly tries to find ways to engage the association and make sure that the important work of the association is not summed up as "just a conference".

"The University of Dubuque is proud to have Amy working as an advocate for students," commented Tim Kremer, UD dean of student financial planning and scholarships.  "Her work ethic in the daily operations of the job is always at the highest level possible, touching the lives of all who come in contact with her.  She is well-deserving of the highest award bestowed by IASFAA on one of its professional members.
