The University of Dubuque recently received a $2,000 grant from U.S. Bancorp Foundation in support of its upcoming Service Learning Fair. Tuesday, April 12 will mark the second year for this annual event to be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Stoltz Sports Center on the University's campus.

Dr. Paula Carlson, associate dean for academic affairs and core coordinator for the Service Learning Fair, describes the importance of this grant, "UD believes that service learning is a vital educational tool to help connect students to the wider community and its needs. We are grateful for grants such as this, which help the University to make that connection."

Last year, a similar U.S. Bancorp Foundation grant provided funding for UD's first annual Service Learning Fair, which showcased students' semester-long service learning projects. Some of the agencies students worked with included the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and the League of Women Voters.

Again this year, students are researching, learning about, and providing volunteer service for a variety of nonprofit agencies. Students will then communicate what they have learned to the entire community at UD's Service Learning Fair. The event is free and open to the public.
