University of Dubuque Announces 2005 Commencement Ceremonies

The University of Dubuque will confer degrees on 171 undergraduate and 43 graduate students during its 153rd Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, May 14, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Stoltz Sports Center.
A Baccalaureate Service for undergraduate students will be held Friday, May 13, at 5:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church prior to the Senior Banquet. Baccalaureate Speaker will be John Hatch, assistant professor of communication. The title of his remarks is Congratulations! You've Arrived -at a Crossroads of Service.
Congressman Jim Nussle will deliver the Commencement Address- Live with Purpose... Pass it On. Nussle was educated at Luther College in Decorah and Drake Law School in Des Moines. After graduating, Nussle chose Manchester, Iowa to pursue a career in law and make his home. He continues to live in Manchester today with his wife Karen, adjunct professor of communication, at the University of Dubuque, and his two children, Sarah and Mark.
Nussle began his career in public service over twenty years ago. First sworn in to the House of Representatives in 1991, Iowa he represents Eastern Iowa's First District, including Dubuque. He consistently works toward bipartisan solutions to the challenges facing his congressional district, Iowa and the nation.
From his leadership position in Congress, Nussle has made Iowa's education a top priority. His education decisions are based on his strong belief that parents and teachers make better decisions for our students than Washington bureaucrats.
Nussle understands that higher education is the key to the future for young Iowans. He is committed to making college a reality for all students across the state, and has increased Pell grant funding to help reduce the financial burden on Iowa college students. He has also supported tax credits and deductions to make it easier for students of all ages to take college classes, either to pursue a degree or to enhance their job skills.
Theological Seminary Ceremonies
The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary will confer degrees on 27 students during the 2005 Commencement Ceremonies- 24 Masters of Divinity, 2 Masters of Arts in Religion, and 1 Doctor of Ministry.
The Seminary Baccalaureate Service will be held on Friday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m. in Blades Chapel, and Commencement Ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Dr. William P. Wood, senior minister of First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina, will deliver the commencement address. Dr. Wood earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Davidson College (NC) and a Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Theology, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Union Theological Seminary (VA). He has studied at the University of Heidelberg and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Tusculum College (TN).
Prior to assuming the senior minister position at First Presbyterian Church, Dr. Wood served as associate minister, First Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, Texas and as senior minister, First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, Tennessee.
