University of Dubuque Announces 2006 Commencement Ceremonies

The University of Dubuque will confer degrees on 217 undergraduate and 67 graduate students during its 154th Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Stoltz Sports Center.
The Baccalaureate Service for undergraduate students will be held Friday, May 12, at 5:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church prior to the Senior Banquet. Baccalaureate Speaker will be Dr. Roger Ebertz, chair, department of philosophy and religion. The title of his remarks is Just the Beginning.
Catherine Dunn, BVM, Ph.D. will deliver the Commencement Address- Today is a Day of Celebration. She will be awarded the degree Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. Sr. Catherine has served as president of Clarke College for the past 22 years. She began her tenure at Clarke in 1973, after receiving her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Arizona State University. From 1973 - 1979 she served as a member of Clarke's education department faculty. In 1979 she moved to administration as vice president of institutional advancement; and in 1984 she became Clarke's fourteenth president.
Since that time, she has overseen the growth and expansion of Clarke's enrollment, programs, and facilities. She has served on the boards and executive committees of a number of the nation's most important and influential educational organizations. She has served on the executive committee of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and chaired the organization's tax policy committee. Other organizations include or have included the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), Iowa College Foundation (ICF), and the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (IAICU).
In 1989, Sr. Catherine was appointed to the Iowa Transportation Commission and made history in 1994 when she became the first woman to be named chair in the Commission's 81-year history. In her 12 years on the commission, she spent six as its chair. Sr. Catherine currently serves on the Greater DubuqueDevelopment Corporation, the Board of Directors for the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors for American Trust & Savings Bank, among other regional organizations.
Theological Seminary Ceremonies
The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary will confer degrees on 30 students during the 2006 Commencement Ceremonies - 17 Masters of Divinity, 3 Masters of Arts in Religion, 7 Doctor of Ministry, and 3 Certificates in Theological Studies.
The Seminary Baccalaureate Service will be held on Friday, May 12, at 9:30 a.m. in Blades Chapel, and Commencement Ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
John H. Haberer, Jr. will deliver the commencement address. The title of his remarks is Wheat, Weeds, Forests, and Trees. John earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Roberts Wesleyan College (NY) a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (MA), and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary (GA). He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Presbyterian Outlook Magazine, and has served as pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Satellite Beach, FL, and Clear Lake Presbyterian Church, Houston, TX. He is the author of two books- GodViews: The Convictions that Drive Us and Divide Us, and Living the Presence of the Spirit.
The Seminary's honorary degree recipient is Rev. Donald Eugene Wilson, minister with the Choctaw Agency, staff member for eastern Oklahoma Presbytery, and program staff for the Racial Ministry Unit of the Presbyterian Church (USA). He has served as board member of the National Council of Churches, on the Native American Consulting Committee, and on the General Assembly Nominating Committee.
