UD Celebrates Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, the University of Dubuque will host Leon Mosley, Republican Party of Iowa State Co-Chair and Cecilia Lott, Pastor of Kingdom Ministries in Dubuque. Mosley and Lott will speak as a part of the "Delighting in the Achievements of African Americans" celebration on Monday, February 11 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in Blades Auditorium.
"Black History Month is a time of reflecting on what great African American men and women of the past have done to impact people today," stated Terry Dunn, Jr., director of multicultural services. "When you hear, "Black History Month", think of people that have empowered a nation to become better and better, each and every day."
Leon Mosley is co-chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa and serves as a board member for the Boy Scouts of America, Juvenile Detention Facility, Main Street Waterloo, and Opportunity Works. He is a 18-year member of the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors, and president of Mosley's Neighborhood Action Team - fighting to combat drugs and crime.
Cecilia Lott is the founding pastor of Kingdom Ministries in Dubuque, Iowa. Under her leadership, the church operates several ministries, including: Hungry No More - a community outreach to those lacking basic needs; God's Daughters' Headed for Destiny - a ministry for broken women; Kingdom Youth Power and Kingdom Youth Explosion; and Partnership Ministry - monthly mailing for those who have been incarcerated. Pastor Lott supports the work of St. Mark Community Center in Dubuque and owns and operates kingdom Care Learning Center.
In addition to the featured speakers, the celebration will include music by the Praise Team from Kingdom Ministries and UD's own Urban Experience together with exhibited art by A'tira Banks (sophomore, Madison, WI) and Rodney Baker (senior, Joliet, IL).
