University of Dubuque Announces 2008 Commencement Ceremonies

College Commencement 
The University of Dubuque will confer degrees on 264 undergraduate and 57graduate students during its 156th College Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Grand River Center in the Port of Dubuque. 

The College Baccalaureate Service will be held Friday, May 9, at 5:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church prior to the Senior Banquet. Baccalaureate Speaker will be the Rev. James Gunn, Edwin B. Lindsay Chaplain to Students. The title of his homily is Amidst the Words Thrown Around. 

Dr. Paul Jensen, professor of philosophy and religion, will deliver the Commencement Address- Three Commitments . Jensen began teaching at the University of Dubuque in 2002, and joined the full-time faculty in 2005. He holds a Ph.D from the University of Virigina and a J.D (with honors) from the University of Iowa College of Law. He has practiced law in Iowa and Illinois for the past ten years with the law firm of Hammer, Simon & Jensen. In addition, Jensen holds the M.Div and Th.M degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, IL) and a B.A. from North Park College (Chicago, IL). He is a member of the Society of Christian Philosophers and the Dubuque and Jo Daviess County Bar Associations. 

Dr. Jensen's students praise him for his "in depth," "incredible!" knowledge of course material, his "respectful and engaging," "approachable and welcoming," and "always positive" attitude toward students, and the way his class "changed my views on questioning in general. . .changed my thinking process." 

Seminary Commencement 
The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary will confer degrees on 45 students - 25 master of divinity, 3 master of arts in religion, 12 doctor of ministry, and 1 certificate in theological studies during the Seminary Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. 

The Seminary Baccalaureate Service will be held Friday, May 9, at 9:30 a.m. in Blades Chapel. Dr. Robert Hoch, Assistant Professor of Homiletics and Worship, will deliver the homily - Breathing Patterns . 

The Rev. Michael L. Lindvall, pastor of The Brick Presbyterian Church, New York, NY, will deliver the Seminary's Commencement Address - Going to your Galilee. 

Rev. Lindvall is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Princeton Theological Seminary. He has previously served churches in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Northport, New York. Rev. Lindvall has written numerous articles and two novels. His work, The Christian Life: A Geography of God , was recently published by Westminster/John Knox Press.
