Loras College and the University of Dubuque Donate Funds to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dubuque

Building on a new tradition, the University of Dubuque and Loras College will donate the proceeds from gate receipts of their annual inner-city rivalry football game, which took place on Saturday, October 10, 2009.

The two institutions believe this new tradition is one way that both schools can give back to the community and model the very best of what it means to be faith-based institutions. Each year, the schools' presidents will intentionally seek out local non-profits that normally do not receive the publicity they deserve, but are doing exceptionally good work on behalf of the community.

This year, Loras College President Jim Collins and University of Dubuque President Jeffrey Bullock chose to recognize Big Brothers Big Sisters with the proceeds, which totaled $2,000. Captains from each schools' football team will together deliver the check to the organization on Monday, October 26 at 3:30 p.m.

Last year, the inaugural year of this new tradition, $2,000 was donated to United Way on behalf of both colleges.
