Sep 11, 2012 | University of Dubuque Theological Seminary

The 160th Opening Convocation of the University of Dubuque will begin at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in Westminster Presbyterian Church.  Janet Jamieson, associate professor of accounting and director of summer school at the University of Dubuque, will deliver the convocation address titledChoices.

Opening Convocation gives the University family the occasion to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year, to share in the traditions that make UD such a special place, and to reaffirm our commitment to the academic work that calls us into being as a community of scholars," commented President Jeffrey F. Bullock.  "We are honored to welcome Professor Janet Jamieson as our convocation speaker.  She is a leader among faculty, and respected by her students for her teaching and engagement with them as persons."

Jamieson earned her master of science in accounting from Bentley College (Waltham, MA) and her bachelor of arts in history-secondary education from Asbury College (Wilmore, KY).  A licensed Certified Public Accountant, she has served at the University of Dubuque since 2000.  In 2003 she was named Faculty of the Year by the vote of undergraduate students; in 2011 she was honored with the William L. Lomax Award and entered into the University's Faculty Hall of Fame.

Together with her husband Phil, assistant professor of pastoral theology at University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, she writes and speaks on money issues as they relate to churches and clergy.  The Jamiesons have co-authored two books - Ministry and Money: A Practical Guide for Pastors(Westminster/John Knox Press, 2009), and Finance: Handling God's Money in the Church (Abingdon Press, forthcoming).  The Jamieson's have two children, Bethany and Mark.

Classes will be cancelled from 8:45 - 10:30 a.m. on September 18 to permit all College and Seminary students, faculty, and staff to participate.  A reception will follow the Convocation in the Alumni Courtyard on the University of Dubuque campus.
