UD Announces Fall 2012 Poet-in-Residence Reading Series

Lauren K. Alleyne, assistant professor of English and poet-in-residence at the University of Dubuque, today announced the fall semester's Poet-in Residence Reading Series: The Non-Fiction Edition. All readings will begin on October 1, 2012 and take place in the Couchman Reading Room of the Charles C. Myers Library. The series is free and open to the public.
Professor Alleyne opens the series on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. with her reading. In addition to her numerous publications in poetry, Alleyne's non-fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in journals and anthologies such as New York Arts Magazine, G'Nat Magazine, The Crab Orchard Review, The Moveable Nest, Sexing the Political, and Women's Studies Quarterly. In 2008, she was selected as a Saltonstall Artist Colony non-fiction fellow.
Second in the series, the University welcomes Roxane Gay on Tuesday, November 1, 2012 with a reading scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Roxane Gay's writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Best American Short Stories 2012, New Stories from the Midwest 2011 and 2012, Oxford American, American Short Fiction, Virginia Quarterly Review and many others. She writes regularly for Salon, The Rumpus, the Wall Street Journal and is the author of Ayiti, a collection of short stories. Gay teaches writing at Eastern Illinois University.
Dubuque native Marianne Choquet concludes the semester's series on December 3, 2012 with a reading also scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. She earned a bachelor of arts in English literature from the University of Iowa and went on to travel, live, and work around the world. While abroad, she earned a Certificate de Lange Francaise from the University of Paris-Sorbonne and a master of arts in Literature and Cultural Studies from the University of Barcelona where she will defend her doctoral dissertation in early 2013. She writes fiction and non-fiction, and her scholarly work has been published in Canada and Spain.
