UD Slates Fall Theatre Production

Oct 16, 2012 | University of Dubuque Theological Seminary

The University of Dubuque Fine and Performing Arts Department and the UD Drama Club will present  The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as its Fall 2012 production - a production conceived by Rebecca Feldman, with original music and lyrics by William Finn, and book by Rachel Sheinkin.  The show was originally produced on Broadway by David Stone, James L. Nederlander, Barbara Whitman, Patrick Catullo, Barrington Stage Company, and Second Stage Theatre.

The show will run three nights, October 25, 26, and 27 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) at 7:30 p.m. in Peters Commons Dining Hall on the University of Dubuque campus, and is directed by Amy Ressler, Professor of Fine and Performing Arts.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The original show's Tony Award winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

The show's cast includes Cody Eigenberger (Dubuque, IA) as Chip Tolentino,  Jon Grobstick (Dubuque, IA) as William Barfee, Devin Lantagne (Sacramento, CA) as Leaf Coneybear, Paige Triervieler (Dubuque, IA) as Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre, Gwen Beatty (Dubuque, IA) as Marcy Park, Ranita Anderson (Dolton, IL) as Olive Ostrovsky, Lindsey Reiter (Dubuque, IA) as Rona Lisa Perretti, Brandon Winter (Clinton, IA) as Mitch Mahoney, and Jim Sherry (Dubuque, IA) as Vice Principal Douglas Panch.

This event is free and open to the public, however a goodwill donation in support of the Fine and Performing Arts Department is appreciated.
