UD Fine and Performing Arts Department to Present A Midsummer Night's Dream

Apr 2, 2013 | University of Dubuque Theological Seminary

The University of Dubuque Fine and Performing Arts Department and the UD Drama Club proudly present William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.  The show begins each evening April 25, 26, and 27 at 7:30 p.m., with matinee performances April 27 and 28 at 2:00 p.m.  in the Babka Theatre in the University's new Heritage Center.

Set in the forest outside Athens, this colorful classic comedy tells the adventures of four young lovers and a group of six amateur actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the dancing, trickster fairies who inhabit the magical forest.  Love, Laughter, and Dance describe this

other-worldly conception of one of Shakespeare's most popular tales.  This contemporary interpretation of Shakespeare's classic tale is not suitable for children under the age of twelve.

Amy Ressler, professor and director of theatre arts, selected this production for its flexibility in interpretation, cast and imaginative fun.  The play features the UD Dance Company, known for complicated Hip Hop moves, who will play the magical fairies that control the love interests of the humans lost in the woods.  "This production will be a celebration of the arts in theatre, bringing together poetry, music, dance, and design to welcome the students to a new era of the arts at the University of Dubuque," stated Ressler.

Tickets for this event will be available beginning April 8.  All seats are general admission - $3 for students, $6 for adults; admission for UD students, faculty, and staff is free with a valid ID.  Contact the Heritage Center Farber Box Office at 563-585-SHOW, 12:30 - 5:30 Monday - Friday or 90 minutes prior to show, pending availability.  Short-term parking to accommodate advance walk-up ticket sales is available at the curb under the drive-through canopy immediately in front of Heritage Center's main entrance at 2255 Bennett Street.
