University of Dubuque Fine and Performing Arts Department Announces Spring Choir Concerts

The University of Dubuque Fine And Performing Arts Department will present three spring concerts by the University's Concert Choir and Chamber Singers over the weekend of April 19, 2013. The Concert Choir will perform on Friday, April 19 and the Chamber Singers on Saturday, April 20 in Blades Chapel on the University of Dubuque Campus; both concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. The Concert Choir will perform an encore concert on Sunday, April 21 at Queen of the Rosary Chapel, 282 County Road Z, Sinsinawa, WI at 3:00 p.m.
The University of Dubuque Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Charles Barland, will present the program they will perform in Hawaii during their national tour this coming May. During their May tour, the choir will offer performances at several churches and other locations on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii from May 20-28.
The University of Dubuque Concert Choir has performed in 38 states and Puerto Rico under Dr. Barland's direction including performances in New York City, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, San Francisco, Pasadena, Las Vegas, Honolulu, and San Juan. During the choir's 2012 Spring Tour, they performed a concert at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City as well as a performance of the national anthem at Nationals (baseball) Park in Washington, D.C. In 2014, the UD Choir will perform along the Gulf Coast.
"These tours offer the students in the choir opportunities to perform music spanning many centuries for audiences far removed from Dubuque and the Tri-State area," stated Barland. "They also are an educational opportunity for our students to learn about the wider world. We are delighted to be returning to Hawaii in 2013!"
The University of Dubuque Chamber Singers, under the direction of Kristen Eby, is a twelve-voice a cappella ensemble of voices from the larger UD Concert Choir. This spring, the Chamber Singers will perform in a variety of styles from Renaissance madrigals to modern spirituals, including pieces by Eric Whitacre and André Thomas.
All three concerts are free and open to the public.
