Bonnie Sue Lewis
Associate Professor of Mission & Native American Christianity

Bonnie Sue Lewis is an ordained Presbyterian elder who taught in Guatemala , California and Washington before coming to UDTS in 1997 to teach mission. She completed her M.A. at Fuller Seminary and her Ph.D. in western history at the University of Washington . A scholar of Native American Christian history, she is author of Creating Christian Indians: Native Clergy in the Presbyterian Church ( University of Oklahoma , 2003). She is also co-editor with Patricia Lloyd-Sidle of Teaching Mission in a Global Context ( Geneva , 2001).

Philip Jamieson
Director of Field Education & Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology

Phil Jamieson is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church with 12 years of pastoral experience. He is currently the Director of Field Education at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary . He holds the Ph.D. in Historical Theology from Boston College . His published work includes essays and chapters in Wired for Ministry (Brazos Press, 2004) and The Upper Room Dictionary of Christian Spiritual Formation (Upper Room Books, 2003). His current research focuses upon the role of the imagination in pastoral care.

  1. Examine the role of the imagination in Christian discipleship
  2. Explore the necessity of Pastoral Renewal for Congregational Renewal
  3. Survey contemporary research in the Pastor’s Role in God’s Mission

Year Two Imagining the Missional Church

  1. Reflect upon contemporary ecclesiastical realities
  2. Explore ways God is at work in the Church catholic
  3. Reconceptualize a Missional Ecclesiology

Year Three Imagining the Missio Dei in our Congregations

  • Apply what we have learned to our own ministry contexts
  • Fashion a proposal for a doctoral project or thesis
