UD Army ROTC Cadet Receives Governor's Award

UD Army ROTC Cadet Shawn R. Quillen (C'10) has been awarded the Iowa Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Governor's Cup Award for outstanding achievement. Quillen was one of eight cadets from the State of Iowa to receive the award, which was presented at the State Capitol in Des Moines on Wednesday, May 5, 2010.

The Governor's Award to Outstanding Reserve Office Training Corps Cadets is awarded annually to the top students in eight ROTC programs at five universities on behalf of the State of Iowa. Quillen (Magnolia, DE), graduated from the University of Dubuque on May 8, 2010 with a degree in psychology, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army on Thursday, May 6, 2010. This summer he is stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA, working with cadets in the Leader Develop Advance Course. In the fall, he will train for the Armor Officer Basic Course at Ft. Knox before being assigned to the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat team 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis, WA.

"Recipients distinguish themselves in the Reserve Officer Training Corps by outstanding attributes of leadership, attainment of a senior cadet rank, participation in extra curricular university and community activities, outstanding performance of duty, achievement of high academic standards, and traditions of the Reserve Officer Training Corps, and reflect great credit on themselves, the State of Iowa, and the Armed Forces of the United States," stated Timothy E. Orr, Brigadier General, Iowa National Guard, The Adjutant General.
