University of Dubuque Inducts Two Members to Faculty Hall of Fame

The University of Dubuque inducted two new members to its Faculty Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 5, 2011. Dale Easley, head of the Department of Natural and Applied Sciences, was recognized with the John Knox Coit Prize, and Janet Jamieson, associate professor of accounting, was recognized with the William Lomax Award.
Dale Easley
Dale Easley earned the bachelor of science in mathematics from Guilford College (North Carolina), the master of science in geohydrology, and doctor of science in geostatistics from the University of Wyoming. He has served the University of Dubuque as associate professor of geology since 2005, and as Head of the Department of Natural and Applied Sciences since 2007. Prior to joining UD, he taught geology for 15 years at the University of New Orleans. Easley's overseas experiences include a year as a Fulbright Fellow in Qatar (an Arab emirate), teaching mathematics for two years in Nyeri, Kenya, and water development and education in Haiti. Easley's leadership as Department Head of DNAS has sparked a remarkable change in the atmosphere among faculty, students, and in the science program as a whole. He leads by example, is openly honest and reflective, and challenges others to strive to be better. As a result of his ever-present interest in students, not only in their academic success, but of who they are as individuals, Dr. Easley is well- respected and admired.
"Every now and again, if we are fortunate, we meet someone who inspires us to be better... better at what we do and better at who we are. Dale Easley is one of those people," commented Gerald Zuercher, associate professor of vertebrate ecology. "The passion and dedication he demonstrates towards the education and development of students at UD is a model for all of us."
Janet Jamieson
Janet Jamieson earned the bachelor of arts, history secondary education, from Asbury College (Wilmore, KY) and the master of science in accounting from Bentley College (Waltham, MA). She has served the University of Dubuque as associate professor of accounting since 2000, and as director of summer school since 2006. As a Certified Public Accountant, she also serves as a faculty member for the Becker CPA Review Course at the University of Dubuque. Prior to joining UD, Jamieson served as adjunct instructor of accounting at Tiffin University (Elyria, OH) and as senior accountant for American Express Tax and Business Services/Hausser & Taylor in Cleveland, OH. She has served as both manager and accountant for CPA firms in Ohio and Massachusetts. Together with her husband, Philip Jamieson, she co-authored Ministry and Money: A Practical Guide for Pastors (Westminster/John Knox Press 2009), and has presented on the topic at numerous workshops and seminars. Jamieson was named University of Dubuque Faculty of the Year in 2003. She is highly respected by her students who find her classes challenging, but also relevant as she effectively ties the subject matter to current events in the business world. She is truly able to integrate the professional and intellectual principles and standards required of the accounting profession with the spiritual and moral responsibilities she, and the University, hold dear.
"Janet's reputation of high moral character grounded in a strong religious faith is reflected in her interactions with students at all levels of the educational spectrum," commented Samuel Deaver, assistant professor of business. "Her students, whether they be undergraduate, graduate, or those attending one of her seminars, all get a glimpse of the life she lives and the moral compass she follows. This creates an exemplary example for all of us, including her fellow faculty members."
