University President Jeffrey F. Bullock today announced that a Grand Opening Orchestra, comprised of musicians from both the Columbus and Dubuque symphony orchestras, will open the University's Performing Arts and Campus Center in a concert on Saturday, May 11, 2013.

"It is a pleasure for me to share news of this exciting concert that brings together artists from these two fine musical organizations," said President Bullock. "It is very rare to bring symphony musicians together in this way, and represents a desire on the part of both orchestras to provide a rich musical experience with which to open our new campus center.  Also, we have the opportunity to visibly link our two `hometowns' - Dubuque with Columbus, Ohio, home of Joe and Linda Chlapaty, major donors to the exciting campus project."

William Intriligator, music director and conductor of the Dubuque Symphony and Peter Stafford Wilson, associate conductor of the Columbus Symphony, will share the concert's conducting responsibilities, each leading one of the major works to be performed.

"The musicians of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and I are delighted to be a part of the inaugural concert of the University of Dubuque Performing Arts and Campus Center," commented Peter Stafford Wilson, associate conductor of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. "We are confident that this new center, unique in its design, will be home to many outstanding performing events for decades to come.  We are honored to share the stage with the musicians of the Dubuque Symphony and Maestro Intriligator, and hope that this collaborative event will inspire similar a wealth of synergetic and uplifting events."

"We feel honored that the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra has been invited to perform at the unveiling of UD's Performing Arts and Campus Center," commented William Intriligator, music director and conductor of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. "I look forward to working with fellow conductor Peter Wilson to create an unforgettable symphony experience in which musicians from both Dubuque and Columbus perform side by side. The Grand Opening Concert will showcase this new state of the art facility which is sure to be a tremendous asset to the UD campus."

Joining the University of Dubuque's performing arts history with our emerging present and future, alumna and Twin Cities vocalist Marian Hoffman, Class of 1955, will be prominently featured as part of the program for the Grand Opening Concert.

Additional details about the Performing Arts and Campus Center and events surrounding the opening will be forthcoming in early spring 2013.
