UD Bestows Honors

Yesterday, the University of Dubuque bestowed high student, faculty, and staff honors upon four individuals at the 2011 Honors Convocation at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The University Leadership Award , Student of the Year Award , Faculty of the Year Award , and Staff of the Year Award were announced at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Leif Olsen received the University Leadership Award . This award, given annually, is the highest leadership honor awarded by the University. It is given to the student who has shown commitment beyond personal gain, served fellow students, encouraged and promoted positive actions in others, and demonstrated in his or her personal life the true spirit of the Mission of the University of Dubuque. Leif, the son of Diana Olsen of Polk City, Iowa, and Richard Olsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, is a senior majoring in aviation management, with a minor in business administration and flight administration. 

Laura Kramer received the Student of the Year Award . Given annually by the Student Government Association, this award recognizes an undergraduate college student who exemplifies those qualities of personal, college and community achievement the University seeks to honor. This student has an above-average classroom record and is involved in campus and/or community activities. The Student of the Year is chosen by election of the general student body from a list of finalists selected by the Student Government Association. Laura, the daughter of Fernanda Karmer, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Vasile Kramer of Barcelona, Spain, is a senior majoring in communication, with a minor in business administration.

Lawrence Muzinga, associate professor of business, received the Faculty of the Year Award . The Student Government Association gives this award annually to a College faculty member who is an outstanding teacher with a positive attitude, who has the ability to motivate, and who has earned the respect of his or her peers. The Faculty of the Year is selected by election of the general student population from a list of finalists selected by the Student Government Association.

Trina Landmesser, career development specialist and adjunct faculty member, received the Staff of the Year Award . Given annually, this award is given to a staff member who unselfishly devotes his or her time and energy in support of the University. The Staff of the Year is chosen by election of the general student body from a list of finalists selected by the Student Government Association.
