University of Dubuque Names New Vice President of Finance and Auxiliary Services

President Jeffrey F. Bullock today announced the appointment of Jim Steiner as Vice President of Finance and Auxiliary Services. Steiner will begin his service at the University on July 1, 2006.
Steiner earned his bachelor of business administration in accounting and his master of business administration at the University of Iowa. He is licensed as a certified public accountant.
"I am very pleased that Jim has accepted the University's appointment as vice president of finance," commented Bullock. "He brings with him a wealth of experience from both the educational and corporate worlds of finance. His knowledge and skill will help the University continue on the path toward financial health. Jim and his spouse, Amy, lived and worked in Dubuque for seven years, so in a very real sense we're welcoming them home."
Steiner comes to the University of Dubuque from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA, where he has served as the vice president of finance for the past six years. During his tenure he worked to increase the student receivable collection rate from 52% to 86%; was responsible for the construction and bond funding of the $8 million Basile Hall project; and led a committee responsible for restructuring the campus health care plan, resulting in a savings of $150,000 per year. Additionally, he taught both accounting and computer courses.
Prior to his appointment at Mount Mercy, Steiner served as CFO of Abbe, Inc (Cedar Rapids), from 1995- 2000, and as senior manager for McGladrey & Pullen, LLP (Dubuque), specializing in the higher education/non-profit sector from 1989- 1995.
Steiner is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (IAICU), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants (ISCPA), and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
In accepting the offer to join the University of Dubuque team, Steiner commented, "I am very honored and excited about the opportunity to become part of the continuing growth and success of the University of Dubuque.
