UD Presents Spanish Tinge

The University of Dubuque's Fine and Performing Arts Department will present Spanish Tinge - Jazz Standards Performed in Latin Styles featuring guest artist Eduardo "Lucho" Rey and the University of Dubuque Jazz Ensemble on Sunday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m. on Sylvia's Common Ground Patio, Myers Library* (on Grace Street between Algona and McCormick). The event is a part of the University's fourth annual spring arts series of events titled The Character of Art; The Art of Character. Admission is free of charge.
The University of Dubuque Jazz Ensemble, led by Music Director James Sherry, featuring saxophone soloist Eduardo "Lucho" Rey from Bogota, Colombia, explores the Afro-Caribbean roots of America's original art form, Jazz. From Latin American came the rhumba, samba, bossa, cha cha, and salsa music.
African rhythms featuring the distinct sounds of the bongos, congas, timbales and claves are all essential elements of Latin Jazz and had an extensive influence on popular music, including the blues, country and western. This can be heard in selections from jazz legends Tito Puente, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus and Consuela Velasquez.

*Join us on Sylvia's Common Ground Patio, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather the performance will be in Blades Auditorium. Parking is available in the Bennett Street parking lot if the performance is held on the Patio, and in the lot at McCormick & University if it is held in Blades.
