Light Up Chalmers Commemorates 9/11 and Kicks-Off Spartan Home Football Season

Aug 30, 2011 | University of Dubuque Theological Seminary

On Saturday, September 10, the University of Dubuque will host its fourth annual Light Up Chalmers community event - the opening home football game of the 2011-2012 season.  Students, staff, and faculty as well as tri-state residents are invited to cheer on the Spartans as they take on the Anderson University Ravens.  The evening begins with kickoff at 6:00 p.m. and concludes with a post-game fireworks display.

Because the game falls on the weekend of the tenth anniversary of the tragic attacks of September 11, the half-time ceremonies will commemorate the events of that fateful day, 9.11.01.  The University will honor those whose lives were lost - victims of the attacks on the Twin Trade Towers, the Pentagon, and the passengers of Flight 93, along with first responders - fire, police, and EMTs - and servicemen and women whose dedication and sacrifice ennoble our days and keep freedom's light burning bright..

First responders and servicemen and women from the tri-states and their families are encouraged to attend the game and to gather on the field at half-time to be recognized for their daily service and to honor those who serve throughout the nation.

After the game, all are invited to remain in the stadium for a brilliant fireworks display.

Admission to the game is free and open to the public.
