The University of Dubuque has received a $400,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to be used toward the purchase of a new Flight Training Device (FTD). The Aviation Department has contracted with Aerosim - a leader in aviation training services and technologies - to build an Federal Aviation Administration Level 5 compliant FTD for the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) 200 aircraft. The training device will give students advanced tools to be competent and competitive for their respective aviation career tracks.

The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary (UDTS) has been approved by both the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association and the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools to provide a Master of Arts in Missional Christianity degree (M.A.M.C.) with half of the courses offered via the Internet. Applications are now being accepted for this new degree program, with classes beginning in August 2011.

Five U.S. Army ROTC cadets were commissioned as Second Lieutenants during a December 18, 2010 ceremony at the University of Dubuque. The ceremony, held in Steffens Hall of the Charles and Romona Myers Center, featured Brigadier General Timothy E. Orr, Adjutant General, Iowa National Guard, as the keynote speaker. The ROTC Eagle Company, headquartered at the University of Dubuque, is open to students from all three Dubuque institutions - UD, Loras, and Clarke - as well as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Bullock announced the Board of Trustees' approval to move forward with the construction of two major capital projects - a $30 million Performing Arts, Worship, and Campus Center, and a $27 million housing project, consisting of three, suite-style student residences. Both projects are intended to be built simultaneously with ground-breaking proposed for Commencement, May 2011.
