It is with sadness and regret that I share with you that on Monday, October 23, Dr. Walter Fritiof Peterson, passed away at 87 years of age. Dr. Peterson was president of the University of Dubuque from 1970-1990; became the University's first and only Chancellor, 1990-2000, and was granted the titles of President Emeritus and Chancellor Emeritus upon his retirement.

University of Dubuque Theological Seminary offers Distance Master of Divinity (M. Div.) Degree

On Saturday, August 4, 2007 a full cohort of students representing three denominations and 12 presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church (USA) enrolled as the inaugural class of the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary's (UDTS) Distance Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree program. UDTS is the first seminary of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to offer a Master of Divinity distance education program. This 5-year program allows participants to take the majority of classes via the Internet. Two-thirds of the courses are taught online, while the remaining credits are earned in residency at the Dubuque campus. The curriculum and faculty for the Distance M.Div. are the same as those in our residential program.

Murry Named Seminary Director of Field Education

Harold (Hal) Murry as director of field education and instructor of ministry. Rev. Murry succeeds Dr. Henry Fawcett who has served as interim director of field education for the past year.

Thompson Named Seminary Director of Distance Learning

Dr. Bradley Longfield, vice president and dean of the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary (UDTS), has named Melinda Thompson, instructor of Old Testament, director of distance learning and assistant professor of Old Testament. Thompson has served as the interim director since the retirement of John Jewell in fall of 2006. Jewell had directed the Distance Learning program of the Seminary since its inception in 1999.

UD Receives $250,000 Grant from The Kresge Foundation

The University of Dubuque has received a $250,000 Capital Challenge Grant from The Kresge Foundation to support the newly renovated and expanded University Science Center. Funding will be given when the balance of the campaign goal ($1,039,610 by January 1, 2008) has been raised.

University of Dubuque Choir to Tour Southeastern States and Puerto Rico

UD ROTC Commissions Cadets

Three Army ROTC cadets will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants during a May 11, 2007 ceremony at the University of Dubuque. The ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Charles and Romona Myers Center Auditorium, and will feature Lieutenant Colonel Todd M. Jacobus as the keynote speaker. The ROTC Eagle Detachment, headquartered at the University of Dubuque, is open to students from all three Dubuque institutions - UD, Loras, and Clarke - as well as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

UD Students Explore the Art and Culture of Italy
