Gary Neal Hansen, assistant professor of church history at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary (UDTS), has received a $40,000 grant from The Louisville Institute's Christian Faith and Life Grant Program. The funding will support a project titled "Doing the Work of God: Historical Models of Christian Prayer."

University of Dubuque Theological Seminary Announces Distance Master of Divinity Degree

The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary (UDTS) has been approved by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) to provide a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree with courses offered primarily via the Internet. Applications are now being accepted for this new program, with classes beginning in August 2007.

UD to Display Don Berry Photographs

The University's Charles C. Myers Library will host an exhibit of photographs taken by the late Don Berry, a prominent Iowa photographer. The exhibit will run from January 16 through February 28, 2007 and is available for viewing during regular library hours*. The exhibit is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

UD Receives $22 Million Gift for Recreation and Wellness Center

Today, President Jeffrey F. Bullock announced a $22 million gift to the University from Joseph (C'68) and Linda Chlapaty. The gift will underwrite the construction of the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center as well as support renovations to Stoltz Sports Center.

University Receives Scholarship Grant from the Bechtel Trust

For the second consecutive year, the University of Dubuque has received a $4,000 gift from the Bechtel Trusts & Foundation (Davenport, Iowa) to establish Harold R. Bechtel Scholarships for entering students from Scott County, Iowa. Funds will be awarded for the 2007-2008 academic year.

UD Receives Grant for Soybean Research

The University of Dubuque recently received a $3,900 grant from the Iowa Science Foundation (ISF) (under the auspices of the Iowa Academy of Science) to pilot the research project, "Metal Complexation with Soybean Induced Ligands: Scientific Approaches for Potential Application to Metal Contaminated Soil Remediation."

UD Launches Community Partnership Campaign

The University of Dubuque kicked off its Dubuque Community Partnership Campaign on Thursday, August 3 with a reception for volunteers hosted by University President Jeffrey F. Bullock. The annual fundraising campaign is conducted by over 50 community leaders serving as volunteers. The Dubuque Community Partnership Campaign creates opportunities for area businesses and members of the community to become Partners in Education by establishing scholarships in their name. Scholarships received during this campaign will provide much needed funding for University of Dubuque students.

University Receives Matching Funding for $400,000 Biotechnology Research Project

The University of Dubuque recently received notification that a grant proposal titled, "Biotechnology Research for Vaccine Production and the Control of Bacterial Infections," has been funded by the Grow Iowa Values Fund. The total project cost is $400,000 and is a joint venture between the State of Iowa Economic Development Fund, administered by the State Board of Regents, and the University of Dubuque- each of whom will invest $200,000. The Principal Investigator is Dr. Richard E. Cowart, professor of biological sciences and head of the department of natural and applied sciences. Working with Dr. Cowart is Dr. Joseph DeParasis, research scientist and a molecular microbiologist at the University of Dubuque.

UD for KIDS Celebrates 15 Years of Dreams and Discovery

The Summer 2006 UD for KIDS program begins on Monday, June 19. This year's program, Celebrating 15 Years of UD for KIDS, will bring young students to the campus during the weeks of June 19-23 for grades 1-2; June 26-30 for grades 3-4 and July 10-14 for grades 5-7. Classes will be held each day from 12:30- 4:00 p.m. at the University.
